Mission To work with poor and excluded people to eradicate poverty and injustice
Activities 1. In collaboration with Ministry of Health, China and Mangrove Support Group and Positive Lives AAIC organized “We are together” photo exhibition in provinces of Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi in November 2005, December 2005 and June 2006 respectively. The photos show the lives of PLWHA in China and other countries in Asia. The exhibition aims to reduce stigma and discrimination as well as pass prevention messages. More than 75,000 people have viewed the exhibition and participated in the accompanying activities. The project has also trained more than 100 student volunteers to be exhibition guides and also to organize prevention and anti-stigma activities.

2. In early December 2005 AAIC organized a training on Stepping Stones/STAR ( 攀登Pandeng in Chinese) a community based workshop that helps people explore their own sexual health needs, discuss the changes that they want, and find ways of making those changes, that result in increased awareness of HIV and AIDS and reduced infection rates. Pandeng approach is now also being piloted in five communities in China.

3. In April 2006 AAIC started the implementation of a project called "Enhancing the capacities and greater involvement of PLWHA in the HIV/AIDS response in China through involvement in ARV treatment counseling and psychological support" in collaboration with China AIDS Info. The project aims to to build the capacities of PLWHA in areas critical for them to be able to participate actively and effectively in the HIV/AIDS response using ARV treatment and psychological counseling as entry points and to assist PLWHA form support groups so as for them to be able to offer each other psychosocial support, share information and experience, and also have their voices heard in the HIV/AIDS response. The project will be implemented in four sites in Guangxi and Guizhou. Trainings for PLWHA groups started in June 2006.
